Dad's Home!

As most of you know, Kris travels a lot for work. I would say he is gone 25-50% of the time. Some months are worse than others. Kale really misses his dad when Kris is gone. This series of pictures reflects Kale's reaction when Kris arrives home from a trip.

Kale was really fussy and out of sorts last week. He would not let me out of his sight and cried nonstop when I had to put him down. I thought perhaps he was coming down with something, but it turns out, he was just having a bit of separation anxiety. He woke up multiple times during the night last week. Now that Kris is home, he is sleeping like an angel again!

Kale would not let Kris out of his sight for a few days after his return. Next week Kris is gone again....not fun for Kale or I (Liam doesn't like it either!).

18 months old!

Kale turned 18 months on Saturday. It's hard to believe he is halfway to two years old! My baby is growing up so fast! We had his well child visit today. He had to get 4 shots...he actually did okay. He cried while they were giving them to him, but as soon as I picked them up, he stopped. He is currently about 33 inches long and weighs only 21 lbs, 5 ounces. I have very concerned about his eating, or lack thereof. The doctor assured me he was just fine...being in roughly the 15 percentile for weight and 60th for height. She repeatedly tells me it is better to be tall and skinny than short and fat, so I am going to try to remember that the next time I am attempting to force feed my child. So basically, Kale is healthy as a horse, so there is nothing I should worry about.

Kale still doesn't say too much, at least not in English. He speaks frequently in "Kale language," which no one can readily identify exactly what he is trying to say. His English vocabulary includes the words hi, no (he is great at this one), ready, sit, dog, and uh-oh. Does he say mom or dad...not a chance! He has, he just chooses not to at this point.

Look-a-Likes?

Kale at 33 weeks ( on right). Liam at 29 weeks (on left).

Liam's Ultrsound-29 weeks

I love this one, with his little mouth open. He was very active during the ultrasound. The ultrasound tech commented that most babies are not as active at this age. Liam does not sleep though, ever. He kicks all day and all night long. I am a little nervous about what kind of sleep patterns he will have when he arrives.

Liam is doing very well. He is a little large, already measuring at 3 pounds, 2 ounces. Everything else is perfect about him, though!

On the other hand, I did not pass my gestational diabetes test. No more Haagen Daaz for me! And I am also anemic again, which explains the exhaustion.

Kale's First Haircut

After much talk between Kris and I, I finally relented and decided it was time for Kale to get his hair cut. I noticed I was putting a hat on him quite a bit to hide his "bozzo curls." He still doesn't have much hair on top, but the he had so much hair on the sides, and it grew it kind of weird, where some patches were longer than others. At times he looked alot like Richard Simmons.

This is the "before" picture. Since Kale's hair is so blond, it's a little hard to see, but notice some of the curls on the side.

Kris decided that he could cut Kale's hair. I think it was a little more difficult than he thought. . . Kale wasn't too cooperative at times. I bribed him with french fries and chicken nuggets from McDonald's.

He loves the camera! (Yes, that is a chicken nugget sticking out of his mouth.)

The back is not too straight in this pic, but Kris fixed it.

All done! I actually felt quite emotional about Kale losing his "baby hair." I didn't think I would, but he was such a bald little baby and his first haircut just reminds me how much he has grown and changed.

Pretty good handi-work on Kris' part!

This is not the best picture of Kale, but I think he looks so grown-up!

He was admiring his hair that I put in the plastic bag for his baby book.

Kale's Obsessions

Kale has many obsessions these days. Wearing other people's shoes is just one of them. He loves to put my high heels on and click-clack all over the wooden floors.

Kris is a little worried, but I assure him that Kale just likes the sound! :)

Kale also loves his hoodie. I try to keep it put up, but the other day he found it in his diaper bag, pulled it out, and then refused to eat without it.

I finally gave in and just put it on him so he would stop messing with it. He thinks he is very good at dressing himself (he's not though).

Once he had the hoodie on he was a happy, compliant boy and ate all of his dinner!

Weekend Projects

Kris was extra motivated this weekend and decided to stain our fence. I originally asked him how long he thought it would take...he thought about 3-4 hours to do the whole thing. Unfortunately he was a little off on the time committment. It took him about 4 hours to do just the outside. Next weekend, he plans to work on staining the inside, which will take even longer! Despite the hard work, I think the fence looks great!
