My Sweet Boy

We are no longer swaddling Kale, so he sleeps in a sleep sack. He is so funny. He loves to sleep on his side and his tummy, which he hasn't been able to do due to the swaddle.

We are still trying to decide who he looks like. His baby pictures and mine are pretty similar. Sometimes his eyes look blue (like in this picture), but sometimes we can't really tell what color they are. He doesn't have much hair, but the sides and top are dark, while the back is blond (he lost some hair in the back, and now it is coming in blond). I am afraid he will look like a calico cat when his hair actually comes in.

Rolling Over

I know this video is probably extremely boring to most, but Kale has finally gotten the hang of rolling over! He rolled over several months ago, but has only done it a few times since then--nothing on a regular basis. The dr. said not to worry unless he wasn't rolling by 6 months. He has two weeks to go, so I was getting worried! He finally has it down pat though. He is very good at going from his back to his stomach, which is bizarre, considering he hates being on his stomach. It is almost impossible to change his diaper because he won't lay still these days.

Amarillo Fair

Our family decided to go to the Amarillo fair. We all went out and bought "rodeo clothes" so we would fit in. Kale was so excited to go to the fair!

Kris seriously bought his shirt from the tractor supply store.

One big country family!

We ate TONS of delicious food--actually that's pretty much all we did: eat. This roasted ear of corn was fabulous! We also had fair popcorn, Texas tornado potatoes, a brisket burrito, a friend ding dong, and a fried smore. I had my doubts about all the fried food, but I have to admit, frying it did make it better!

Kris was in heaven with this mound of Texas tornado potatoes. They tasted a lot like potato chips to me.

Update from cow town

Well, we are settled into good 'ole Amarillo. It is definitely taking some getting used to. The town smells like cow poop (and I am being nice by calling it poop) almost all the time! It is so windy here and there are so many stockyards. It stinks so bad!! I don't see how people live around the stench. On a higher note, we are talking to builders this weekend. Hopefully we will be able to get started on the construction of our new home. Our lease ends in May, so we have to have somewhere to move by then, even if it does smell!

I am absolutely loving my job! I find it hard to leave Kale each day, and do feel some Mommy guilt, considering he is spending more time with other caregivers than me, but I do find my job very fulfilling. This district needs me and I am enjoying the challenge. I think Kris is enjoying his job as well. He has been traveling alot, so Kale and I have had to learn to cope on our own. The dogs enjoy the back yard, but unfortunately have to be put in the kennel all day every day when we are not here. They get out no matter what we do. Molly included (not just Joe this time!). My brother seems to be doing well. We have gotten to talk to him alot recently. He is at a new outpost and seems to like this one a bit better. He has a pet cat there. He says the cat sleeps with him every night. I thought that was funny.

I bought Kris a cowboy shirt for the rodeo that comes to town in September. I think it was a bit too small...

My sweet, sleeping boy.

Kale is always in such a good mood in the mornings. He always squeals and smiles so big when I wake him up. It's like he saying, "Momma, I missed you!"

We are getting ready for winter. I bought Kale this cute hat at Baby Gap. He also has a very stylish Pea Coat for winter. (It is still 90 degrees here during the day, by the way.)

*** This blog post is dedicated to Melissa, who says she checks my blog every day. That gives me incentive to keep it updated!

Baby pictures

I complied a video of Kale's professional pictures. I think he might be the most photographed baby ever...  Some of these pictures arent' great quality, because I had to scan them in, but you get the picture.

Santa Fe Trip...well, kinda

Kris and I decided it would be a great idea to load our little family (dogs included) up in the Tahoe and travel to Santa Fe for Labor Day weekend. In theory, it was a good idea...however, since Kale has been feeling under the weather, it turned out to be a horrible idea.

We left Amarillo on Friday around 4. We got into Santa around 7 p.m. Kale was a bear, screaming nonstop, so we decided just to order pizza and hang out in the room, while he slept. The next day we set about sightseeing, shopping, eating, etc. . . but something still wasn't right with Kale. He was particularly fussy. We ended up stopping at Walgreens and buying a thermometer. He had a temperature, AGAIN! We decided at that point that we needed to head home. So, we arrived back in Amarillo about 24 hours after we left the previous day!

We have decided that we will wait a while before attempting to travel with a baby.

It's a good thing we have a big car. We were completely full between our family, the dogs, suitcases, stroller, pack-in-play, etc. The dogs are excellent travelers!

My sweet, sick boy. We went the doctor again today. We are there several times a week at this point. He still had a bit of an ear infection and is extremely congested, plus he has a cough. She prescribed more antibotics. (Let's hope he's not allergic to these!) Right now he has to sleep in the swing to keep him elevated, otherwise he can't breathe at all. He sounds horrible!  I really hope he gets better soon.

New "Pet"

Apparently all of the houses in this neighborhood come with a free "pet" rabbit. Our rabbit lives in our front yard, under a tree. He is there every day and helps to keep the grass short. All of our neighbors seem to have them too. This morning when I went outside for work, our rabbit had friends over. There were two neighboring rabbits in our yard. They are fairly tame too!

On the Move

We bought Kale a cheap walker because he wants to be so active these days. He loves his jumperoo and will sit in it for extremely long stretches of time. (He even fell alseep in it today!)  We thought he would enjoy moving around in a walker as well . He is still figuring out how to manipulate it. Right now he can only go in reverse.

His favorite thing to do is chew on the toys on the front of the walker.

First Sickness

Kale got his first sore throat last week. The doctor said it was red and inflammed, with white bumps in the back. When I picked him up from daycare this Monday, he was running fever AGAIN! I took him to the doctor to discover that he has a double ear infection. That was bad enough. However, they gave him pencillin. Guess who's allergic to pencillin....Kale! He has an awful rash all over his body. I tired to take pictures of it, but they camera didn't capture the rash too well. He has not been too much fun to be around. Hopefully he is on the mend now!
